Cabra, Cira and Birrieria Zaragoza are among new additions to Michelin’s 10th annual Bib Gourmands for 2020.
Overall, 54 Chicago restaurants were cited on Michelin’s “value restaurant” list, a decrease from 58 last year. Cabra, Stephanie Izard’s Peruvian-inspired spot; and Cira, both operated by Boka Group, are both in the Hoxton Hotel in Fulton Market.
Birrieria is a Mexican restaurant on the South Side near Archer and Pulaski.
The Bib Gourmands, released a week in advance of the guide, are awarded to restaurants that deliver “quality food for an affordable price” (two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less, excluding tax and tip). A few years ago, Crain’s dug a little deeper to see what $40 would actually get you at most of the restaurants on Michelin’s list. (Spoiler alert: It wasn’t much.)
Notable fall-offs from the list this year were Au Cheval, famed for its burger, and Hopleaf, a longtime craft-beer-focused spot in Andersonville.
